Our Heeler history...
My first experience of the Lancashire Heeler was when I met one as I made a visit to a farm in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The farmer's wife told me that she had been given the dog from her sister, who bred them, and that if I was looking for a dog of high intelligence and friendly nature the Lancashire Heeler was the breed to look at.
We visited her sister & was instantly impressed with the litter that she showed us- in particular the 'meercat' antics of the mother. Another thing that struck me was the obvious femininity of her.
We were smitten and came home withour first Lancashire Heeler, 'Pip'.
Pip
We eventually nicknamed him 'Kato' due to his habit of hiding behind cars, walls and anything else he could find so that he could jump out and surprise you at every opportunity!
Pip was with us for 17 years and gave us so much love & enjoyment. He developed a character and intelligence that we have never encountered in an animal before. The stories are endless. Whilst we had no plans to try to replace the irreplaceable after a couple of months we found ourselves wondering whether we might enjoy some more Lancashire Heeler company.
A year and a half later saw the arrival of Poppy and Penny into our lives and there began an education...
